@imaginedtruth1: Imo, look into PC Decrapifier, Revo Uninstaller, and CCleaner for the gunk removal. They're all free tools.
The other day, I saw one piece of crap of a site that said to disable the Task Scheduler service to help with performance. Stupid f*ing dimwit, whoever it was. Along with a few other features, Prefetch needs TS to be running.
@Archnemesis_Goldenhair: This one. Got to be.

@Proteus Zero: @Couchr: Another vote for Everything Search.
@tedknaz is de-starred: For Google Chrome, I found I had to get rid of its entries in Task Scheduler. The fastest way there, was to type tasks and then press enter in Run. I found two items in the list. Once they were gone, Chrome didn't get any marching orders to thrash my disk. :)

@Qwerty0: I'm just wondering if that helps the startup times of your programs.
@icecreamman: Just speaking for myself here. I didn't hang around v5 long enough to really compare it with v4 or 3. In my eyes, Mozilla committed egregious sin by wrecking smooth scrolling. For my part, when I'm learning something new, I have to go back to baby steps or 'hand holding' mode. I never resent a how-to instructing me like a child, because that's why I'm there. The geek speak and all the granular stuff can wait until I have the basics. It seems it has always been this way.
