How can one be critical of politics without running for office?

Different categories allow different things. SMW has a ton of different categories, as does most other games.
Because not all programmers are created equally, and there are often project deadlines that come into play. For some, simple AI may be the easiest way to get the project completed, or their more complex systems may introduce more bugs then they have time to fix.
Modern AI is an order of magnitude more complex then Pac-Mans. I'd wager the code alone for a single games AI these days would be larger then the source code for pretty much every 80's game combined.
You laugh, but i'd watch the hell out of a space themed procedural drama.
I take it as more a logistical one. There are, iirc, like 12-1500 different rights and privileges associated with marriage. Altering those for 3+ parties instead of two would be a pretty massive undertaking.
