I googled it, and apparently the surface area of Neptune is ~7.6 billion sq. km., so while the author’s math is (obviously) correct, it’s a bit of an inapt metaphor. I guess it’s the closest in terms of celestial bodies, but why not say “half the surface area of neptune”.

I was briefly confused because I saw this headline on CBC earlier today, didn’t read it, forgot about it, and then was amazed to see the peg show up on Gizmodo.
I wouldn’t say that Fistfull of quarters was about Billy Mitchell, and I especially wouldn’t say it was a documentary about him. If anything, it was a documentary about the high score, mostly focused on Steve Wiebe, that featured Billy Mitchell.

Degree days are calculated based on the sum of the average temperature below zero in any given amount of time. So, if you had three days that were all -10 degrees, you would have 30 degree days over that period of time. So, since it’s been warmer (est?) this year, there are fewer degree days because it was not as cold.
