My fiance has a similar take and I applaud her for it - she’s tried to reach out to the very few Republican/Conservative friends she has.
I,however, have no time for that shit. I know they’re not going away - I just don’t want to deal with that nonsense right now.

When I separated from my ex-wife I lost weight.
Not because of some “oh, she’ll take me back if I get fit” nonsense. I’d kicked her out (long story, really messy) and said “I don’t need her, I’m going to work on making myself better.” and being in better shape was part of that.

I assumed it was a reference to the English use, in wich “fancy dress party” is usually a costume party.
