i bought a new explorer in ‘92 off the dealer lot after watching it sit there for nearly a year (i drove past the dealership every day on my way to work) — it was a brown (technically mocha metallic in ford parlance), manual 4x4! and i ended up paying nearly $5K below sticker.

if you’ve spent any time driving around europe outside of the major cities you will see quite a few large sedans and wagons towing small campers. europeans enjoy camping too, but dont need an F350 dualie towing a 38-ft fifth wheel trailer to do it.

ours is an ‘09 AT. i was daily driving it for a few years and racked up the miles...i just cant commute the DC beltway in a manual...my wife now drives it less than 5K miles annually, and we have no plans to get rid of it.
