I think the author is referring to methane that is often a byproduct of fossil fuel extraction. It’s not uncommon to see methane being burnt on-site to create CO2 instead of releasing pure methane onto the atmosphere. I guess capturing it and selling it is not exactly a priority for oil mega-corporations.

The ultimate and most efficient form of “recycle” that can exist would be “reuse” or “repurpose”. Why scrap a perfect usable battery that can offer 80% of its original capacity? After 100-250k miles on a vehicle, a battery pack can simply be ripped off, stuff in a box, and toss it next to your garage and voila you
