Fair enough. It’s awesome that it still feels new. I’ve owned a few 300ZXs and now an MR2, it’s hard to find a car that old that still feels new. My first Z was something like that, it still looked and felt to be in very good condition. My biggest regret in life is crashing that car.

A feeling I know all too well. Haha. Beautiful cars by the way, congratulations on the feature. :)

Done. It’s got custom CA black plates coming.

Sold my AE86 a few years back and regret it ever since. Went thru 6 of them before finally getting one on the road.

affordable? leightweight? ha! And ironically, Toyota is so proud of this creation and its heritage, that they don’t even want to stick their name and badge on it..

My car approves of this video.

Compared to most RWD sports cars on the market it is lightweight. Adjusted for inflation, a brand new 1985 Corolla GT-S Coupe would have cost just over $20k today. Granted “affordable” is a relative term, but if you think a brand new RWD sports car for <$25k isn’t affordable then you’re likely still in school or

About the closest we got was the Corolla XRS in 05-06. Got some decent spec parts, but it was still FWD and one of the uglier body styles in recent memory.

The point is that it was a throwback to the affordable, light, rwd sports car platform. A car that actually makes you feel connected to the driving experience. The AE86 also came in a coupe version, btw.

Beautiful.

I was looking for an AE86, but sellers are asking drug money for it here down under. We tend to get screwed on car prices in australia, but we do get the odd bit of japanese old school goodness too. Ended up with a couple of S15s instead.

Have always wanted a Corolla GTS. Unfortunately there aren’t many around, and those that do pop up for sale are about $8k more then anyone should pay for them.

Mine was replaced with an 1st gen Miata. A car that more than deserves its legendary reputation more than the AE86.

I wanted one of these so bad after watching initial D. I was 15, i had found one i could afford. Parents wouldint let me buy it because it was a manual. Shoot 10 years later, i found an sr5 and learned manual in it. Its more than just an anime car to me. Its my dd and even though it only has 80hp. Its the most fun ive

I agree. These cars were at one point, so cheap that you could pick them up as demolition derby cars. I was only 14 at the time, But if only I had known what these cars would be worth one day.

Dont worry, true 86s are still cheap, They are considered scrap by the Japanese so they are cheap to buy (whilst hard to find and purchase from half way across the world) these are merely USDM AE88 Corolla GTS, which are the overly inflated, drove to high price by overly obsessive idiots, and while very profitable if

I wish Toyota made more affordable Yamaha developed engines...like a pedestrian Corolla with individual throttle bodies, a Yamaha head, and super high redlines. Maybe Toyota should make a RWD sedan the size of the Corolla...lightweight aluminum bodies and aerodynamic and in several trims. It might be between the
