So ridiculous that we couldn’t even drink water. Except when it was 105 degrees outside and Metro granted us the kindness of being able to hydrate. If anything, spilling water on those trains could only help the nastiness of those carpeted floors. Yech!

I do hate seeing people break the very simple, common sense rules like don’t eat on the train, because the other day I sat down not realizing something very sticky had been spilled on the seat, and it was really unpleasant. The absolute worst is when people play audio from their phone WITHOUT HEADPHONES, I legit think

That isn’t what happened here though.

Yes. Thank you. Came to the comments to find fellow DC-ians who know what’s up. One time as a teenager I had a low blood pressure episode on the Metro, got out a granola bar while fighting passing out, and was yelled at to not eat it.

I don’t share you’re vitriol for the worker, but I think that context is probably missing from the story. She was probably cited or got reprimanded for eating or drinking on the train by an employee then to see one doing it right in front of her likely just seemed like the height of hypocrisy and the rules being unfair

Not arresting people anymore is not really the same as allowing something. That actually matters because jerks can still abuse their authority.

Do a little Googling. It definitely used to be be a thing that happened regularly enough to scare lots of people. It was inconsistent and I'm sure racist but very real.

Best to burn them at the stake right. Those fascist rule stickers. They have their rules and you have yours: do not trust them; destroy them. Yeah that is a model society you have set up there. Good luck with it.

People need facts: Metro workers are unionized. They are well paid. Some make six figures. Some that have commuted crimes have kept jobs. This woman received no penalties from Metro.

Im going to guess Working Poor for  20,000, Alex.

When someone tells a stranger to MYOB, at least 50% of the time they ARE doing something wrong, though. Actually, probably higher than that.

Those train operators can make some serious money so they are hardly “low wage”.

Or here’s an alternate take: You should shut the fuck up and listen to the context that actual users of that DC line have posted. Because it fills in the blanks of context, and all you are doing is bloviating like an asshole.

Anyone who has lived long enough and has been under an avalanche of stress has probably turned on a rude employee, because it was just the last fucking straw on the camel’s back, regardless of race, sex, age, etc. Why is there a rush to judgment on this woman? No matter how outraged people are about narc-ing on black

According to Metro’s website: they haven’t changed the rules. So as someone who has been ticketed and threatened with arrest for drinking water on a metro car with no functioning AC on a 95 degree day, this particular metro employee can get fucked. If the woman who called her out had been black no one would have said

I saw a lady yelled at for sticking a candy bar in her mouth as she went through the turnstiles at L’Enfant Plaza. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was too scared to even attempt to eat or drink on the Metro.

How could you possibly know that the women giving you dirty looks were “overprivileged 9-5 mummies with paid help”? Did they have their children and paid help with them, or something?

Yeah. I get on at New Carrollton in the morning sometimes, and occasionally grab a breakfast sandwich from one of station’s vendors. I will eat it out on the platform-- I know it’s annoying for everyone else. But if that bell rings and I have a few bites left, I’ll still duck into the train and quickly scarf it down.

I don’t agree with the outrage. Not only was this rule strictly enforced by WMATA, I’ll let you guess which demographic groups were most often the targets. If I didn’t know the rule had changed, I’d be pissed to see this, too.
