I've lived here for over 20 years... which still feels odd saying (and makes me feel old) but I've had citizenship since I was born.

I know and understand, but still find it strange.
From reading articles and comments here, and on other sites, I sometimes feel like it's simply a matter of affordable genetic testing before people are walking around with a DNA map of their entire ancestry... "Hey, we have 5 markers in common!", or something...

Which is odd, since Portuguese people* in Portugal consider themselves white. *shrugs*
