I just watched an episode of Disco where there were a few alien characters, so it’s unclear whether there’s another explanation for The Orville’s delay or if perhaps Disco is just using a lower safety bar.

The modern Star Treks are decent modern Spins on ST, but they are by no means the same show as ToS, TNG or even DS9 -- which is, arguably, the progenitor of the modern series (since it introduced the holographic display systems).

The implication that Section 31 is the organization that does the necessary things that Starfleet can’t do is sort of the epitome of what I’ve disliked about Disco’s first two seasons.

The thing is, there’s nothing inherently wrong with setting Disco 10 years before TOS. There are plenty of serialized stories that you could tell in that setting.
