To be perfectly honest, I’m not even a huge sports fan. I just lived in and around Philly for 10 years, so I know what “rage passing for passion” looks like.

I feel like a lot of sports fans confuse “inability to control anger” with “cares about the game” or “takes things seriously”. We’ve all had moments of frustration in our lives. Some of us put our hands through the drywall, and some people find other ways to handle that frustration. I don’t see anything praiseworthy…
Actually, I guess that the analogy would really be that he kills Flash and is then allowed to join the team.
What I don’t understand is why they didn’t set up some kind of net situation instead of relying on a PA to catch the throws. The movie made over $40 million on an $8.5 million budget. They could have afforded $100 for some kind of training net for him to throw into.
That was my thought as well. And not just a character that was part of the in-universe team, but a fan favorite as well. It’d be like if some mystery man walked into the Daily Planet and murdered Jimmy Olson and said, “I’m on the Justice League now!” and everyone was like, “I don’t like you, but I guess ok.”
Oh sure, and there are probably a number of potential policies that could have helped or stopped the shootings entirely. My point is just that Republicans have staked out a position that mental health issues are to blame, but then take literally no action to address that issue and determine whether it is the cause and…
Here’s the thing, problem solving involves identifying a problem, thinking of possible causes, and then engaging in testing to see what the cause is and to try to find a solution. At least in public, Republicans have identified mental health issues as the primary diver of our gun violence problem. That being the case,…
Things like this make me think that he has some talent or instincts, but just isn’t practiced/trained/hard working enough yet.
Like I said, I’m certainly no expert, but why would LeBron insist on hiring scrubs?
I’m not at all a basketball analytics expert, but other than Kyrie, did Cleveland really give LeBron great teammates to help him win championships? I remember the reporting always being about LeBron dragging a bunch of scrubs to the finals. And maybe that’s Griffin’s point, but isn’t it easily answered by some stats?…
Does that make the rest of the American League the Kodan Armada?
I’ll never understand why people can’t handle this stuff. NDT does some serious science communication in which he explains concepts like climate change in engaging ways. He also does fun and silly tweets where he posts about how movies get things wrong, using it as an opportunity to present some science fact that the…
The difference is that there’s not an entertainment industry built for an audience to watch to see if a hiker dies or a soccer mom dies in a 5-car pile up (except, perhaps, local news). The ethical problem is tuning in to be entertained by people getting brutalized for your enjoyment.
That was my first reaction. I wasn’t sure when he moved to TBS, but it was a long time ago, and while it’s certainly not as big of a cultural force as a network show, it’s at least successful enough to warrant continuing. That said, I was sad that they had to let go of the band.
I’m not a football fan, let alone college football, and yet somehow this is one of those factoids that seems like it’s going to be stuck in my head forever, long after most people who actually like the sport have forgotten about it. What I’m saying is that I appreciate that someone else remembers too.
Hell, even a Republican exactly as conservative as McConnell would likely be somewhat less bad because they wouldn’t have seniority and likely would be less competent at political strategy.
You deserve more stars for that.
Yeah, I didn’t realize that it was so obscure that people didn’t realize that it was Redford, let alone recognizing the film that it was from. Damn, this article made me feel old.
That’s what I guessed as well.
There’s no clear line on these issues, but there’s a pretty big difference between Birth of a Nation, which is both a historically important film and also one which uses racist imagery to make a fairly explicit political point, and a badly-aged joke in a fake blooper reel from the credits of a kids movie, the removal…
