Thanks; that makes more sense.

So I thought that too, and you may be right, but closed caption said “abuela”.  I’ll assume they got it wrong.

Random - did Lalo call Kim Jimmy’s “abuela” in the first scene (outside the jail)?  I’ve studied and spoken Spanish for many years (though as a non-native speaker) and I’ve never heard someone call a young female s/o an abuela... Is that slang?  I can’t imagine telling a dude in the US he has a hot wife/girlfriend and

Could be a Gene scene, but I have another crazy thought.  There are actually TWO flash forward sequences in BCS - one is the b/w sequence with Gene.  The other is the Breaking Bad era sequence (roughly right after or during Ozymandias) in “Quite a Ride”.  Jimmy very conspicuously goes on about Francesca being

I THINK that Mike assumed that Tyrus and Victor were taking care of the car and they messed up.  They had to get the scene - this seems like a Gus crew fail.

Wow. What an amazing subversion of expectations. Pretty much everyone expected Kim to be potentially imperiled, and she was. But, what I did not see coming was this - Jimmy would have been killed by Lalo but for Kim. Kim, who saves herself, is all that could save Jimmy this time. Jimmy would have broken to Lalo with

To be clear the origin (we think) is the phrase “youse guys in there...” slurred by 50-75k drunk cousins and uncles to a group of people in a building, whilst pissing outside a bar off one of the three rivers, led to a Ghostbusters 2 style infection of our patois. That’s our best case.

Ahem.  It’s “yinz”.  We’re not fancy.

My understanding of Philadelphia is that everyone is constantly looking for a fight.  Hence, Rocky.  Also, everyone is mentally ill.  Hence, Silver Linings Playbook.

Agreed.  But bypassing Philadelphia is a wise move.  Crazy people there.

That goes both ways.  I wouldn’t ever want to be lumped with Philly.

In this sense, you’re right and so is he.  Because most San Franciscans are, like I was, transplants.  So the locals don’t dictate the accent.  It becomes about the attitude.  See also DC.

Agree so much. I’ve lived in or been well acquainted with many of these places. The ones he does badly-

He skipped at least 22 states... and his Pittsburgh accent was shockingly bad given that it’s an easy accent to crush.

Hardcore is a very good movie, but I would love to see what Milius thought it could be.  (Unapologetic Schrader fan.)

Huh.  I loved it on all levels.  I also liked Gangs of New York, but I’d say that’s the “worst” of the DiCaprio era.  Great acting, great shots, but the story is a bit digressive and doesn’t really resolve on something of typical Scorsese substance.  Might be my least favorite Scorsese movie.

Is that how it shakes out?  If this ends up locking Scorsese from the world, that’s gonna suck.  But if they just do a theater release or sell me the movie (or rent it), I’m okay with all of this.

Wait, which is the “pretty good” one? Just curious. For my money, Aviator has DiCaprio’s best ever performance (even if the movie is a bit shambling).

Why shouldn’t the money be spent on movies? GDP isn’t capped. The crew, cast, distributors, producers, actors, writers, etc. all get a share of that budget, and then they spend that money on all sorts of things. I’m not a believer in “trickle down”, but I also don’t understand artificial barriers for money to go to.

I agree with all of that. My point was just this - he’s an unusual filmmaker in that his movies receive a lot of acclaim, he’s popular with the average person and “arty” types (like those here), and his movies have a lot of ambition behind them. Old school studio models would have been reluctant to invest a lot in his
