The first time I booted the game, I had that black screen. But since my AV flagged a file and deleted it during download, I white-flagged the game .exe file and ran a game files verification to get the missing file... and it just worked.

I’m surprised there is no mention of Metroid in there! There’s no world map like most games on this list, but the lore alone makes up for it as far as Sci-fi is concerned in VG.
