You should check out "Reamde" I feel like everything Neal Stephenson does well is honed to a fine point in that book.

I just finished Kate Atkinson's Life after life. The premise is the same as Ken Grimwood's "Replay" - a person who lives their life again and again. It wasn't as fast paced as Replay - but it was beautifully written. Atkinson's descriptions of the London Blitz were amazing. Now I'm back on a sci-fi kick. I'm reading

There's a great short story about some woodcutter's kid that stumbles upon the sleeping kingdom. His dad beats him so he runs away and hacks his way through the brambles. The rest of his life he just wanders around the sleeping kingdom - never going hungry because the food just reappears overnight. At the very end of

Beside all the ones that have been mentioned - scenes in "1408" gave me a real chill. I loved the creepy scene where Cusack is walking around the room and all the sudden his bed is turned down and there's a mint on the pillow. Then there's that great use of the Carpenters song - and finally that one scene where he's

Roger Ebert has a great write of watching the movie for the first time with a bunch of kids.

His book "You're Not Doing it Right." is terrific.

"Micheal, not all Germans are Nazis."
"That's not my understanding."

Try Carrion Comfort - that book kicks ass.

Quick - favorite Onion Taylor Swift article:

Seconded on Doctor Sleep. I just finished rereading The Shining to get ready for it. I'm hoping it will be more "Under The Dome" and "11/22/63" Stephen King rather than "Lisey's Story" Stephen King.

I just wonder what kind of wild animal will piss on Sandler this time..got be a raccoon right?

More like Blanded eh?..amirite ..no wait should that be blahned?..no blah-nded…GODDAMMIT

I was pleasantly surprised by the first one. The only one I didn't like was Joe Swanberg's alien baby thing. That shit was more confusing than scary.

"Safe men" was the first movie I ever saw Rockwell in and it remains my favorite of his. That's followed closely by "Seven Psychopaths" and then "Moon"

Speaking of Bill Murray - did anyone else really hate Rudy Gerner in Meatballs?

As a Gen-Xer I'm not too worried about the Millennials. The amount of creativity  I see coming from that generation takes my breath away sometimes. Add on to that a deepening social awareness as life kicks them in the balls repeatedly and I think they are in a good spot to fix some of the major problems in the world

Anyone as bummed as I am about Iain Banks passing today?  I credit his Culture books with re-awaking my interest in science fiction. I picked one up at a time in my life when I was growing tired of fiction in general. I wanted to read something fantastical and fun - something that sparked my imagination the way books

I loved that story. I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one that noticed the similarities. I've always wondered  if the two were connected somehow.

My favorite gag in that episode was when Slattery's girlfriend opens her mouth to talk. She has this loud and annoying voice and everybody kind of cringes at her volume.

Of course on the flip side of that is this story
