I’m not seeing how this connects to Dobbs or Roe. Plus it takes place in California, which hasn’t changed its policies on access to abortion rights or healthcare. If anything it has strengthened those rights.

Respectfully, this piece is in very poor taste. I actually agree with the general premise of it: I was a public defender for the first four years of my career. The prison system is very corrupt, and I have long advocated for there to be an age cut off for people who no longer pose a threat to society to be released.

The headline made me shudder. Imagine having a million dollars to bet, and the freedom that kind of wealth would afford you to live any kind of life you want, and then using that freedom to write for Jezebel. Like, you’d need to be far more of a sociopath than Van Houten to do that.
