A writer on Noisey today noted that Tom Petty was always out of touch with the times because his music was timeless.

I’m 54 year old. Tom Petty and his music have been a constant in my life since I’m 13. I’ve worn out his records and seen him perform more times than I can count. He never quit. He has a new album and just finished a tour — he never became a “play the greatest hits at the county fair” guy.

Pretty sure Andy (the hero of the story) gets raped in Steven King’s novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. (Andy/Tim Robbins definitely gets raped in the film adaptation.) This doesn’t change your point, just noting the exception to the rule.

One way to eliminate tanking might be to incentivize teams to win as many games as possible. Less teams would tank if revenue was relative to their won-loss records.

I most often hate my job. But the fact that I’m at work and not near a television when this shit goes down is a saving grace.

Not sure if this is in the article, but UCLA’s gymnastics team is always at the top or near the top when it comes to academics among UCLA’s athletic teams. It’s in the culture she created — the seniors and juniors make sure the freshmen know that excelling in the classroom is expected of them.
