This has been going on for years, it’s not a new concept. These companies feed off of FOMO among other things - from kids and adults alike. The difference is, a kid’s brain isn’t developed enough to handle that stuff in a logical way.

How quickly should we assume that the “guiding voice” that helps you throughout the game is the “actual antagonist?”
