Double-sided tape on any surface you don’t want them scratching. They freaking hate the feel of the tape on their paws. Absolutely give them an alternative scratching surface - baited with catnip for extra encouragement - but deterring with double-sided tape works great.

National Geographic Kids is - without hyperbole - the worst magazine in the world for kids. It’s one big advertisement from cover to tail, including the “articles” which tie in to upcoming movies or products. The. Absolute. Worst.
