That’s what I can’t imagine is the temperature. I’ve slept in my car a few nights here and there on different road trips, or to catch a quick nap during a tough day at work, and if it’s above 70 degrees outside it’s unbearable with the AC turned off.

Sounds like where I live. Town of about 25,000 and there are two standalone Subways, one inside of Wal-Mart, and at least three inside of gas stations/convenience stores. And those are just the ones I’m sure of. There might be one or two more gas station stores in the parts of town I don’t visit very often.

Just from a strategic standpoint, this cop did PIT her in about the safest location possible — no traffic around, three-lane divided highway where she won’t cross over into oncoming traffic (and has some room to scrub off speed), and a solid barrier to eventually stop her.

Yeah, but when you put on your flashers and slow down from 80 mph to 55 or 60, it’s pretty obvious you’ve seen them and you’re not trying to run.

My mother-in-law has been married three times, and two of her husbands have had both large home shops and missing fingers. Clearly, she has a type.

Of course, the flip side of that is that now might be a decent time to buy a new car. New car prices are more or less the same as they’ve been for the past 10-15 years. If inflation and higher interest rates are on the way, which seems very possible within the next couple of years, this might be as cheap as a new car…

If you’re driving an average of 4,000 miles per year and live in New York, God bless you. An EV is probably perfect for your needs.

My parked car (a 2018 Mazda 3) got smoked on a city street in April and wound up being totaled.

I would guess between the light and 1/4 tank most times, but it’s usually whenever the range gauge tells me I have under 90 miles left. I have a 60-mile one-way commute and I don’t want to have to stop on the way to work, coast into work town on fumes, or risk getting stuck in traffic and freaking out as I idle down…

That goes to my point. People look at the rail systems in Italy or Germany and compare them to the entire U.S., rather than individual states or regions. They do that for a lot of things where it’s an apples to oranges comparison (COVID being a prime example).

Of course, for as much as people say our roads and infrastructure are crap, you can still drive from Miami to Seattle, or San Diego to Boston, in four or five days without too much trouble. And even if you want to get off the interstate and onto some of the back roads along the way you’ll still do it without expecting…

Italy is also roughly the size of Arizona. Whenever people talk about building high speed rail in the U.S. — or any of a number of other social or infrastructure items that some European countries have that we don’t — they never seem to grasp just how damn big this country is. There are a lot of geographical factors…
