He’s a pretty good governor for his state. I have no idea why he’s running.

Realistically, there’s no other way she was ever going to go.
Are you saying we need to bring back duels?
Can we keep the troll and ditch the original (who is also a troll)?
The Democrats did not have the power to shut down the government. At best they had the power to bail the Republicans out of their own shutdown. That was only possible on specific issues because the Republican leadership felt like they would be more able to negotiate with Dems who didn’t want to tank the economy than…
What’s the worst thing you ever wrote?
I’m 90% convinced that scene was written explicitly to be a gif.
What are these “ways of shutting things down that don’t require subpoenas” that are available to the minority party in the House?
Agreed.
All those ways require them having subpoena power and the ability to get majority votes in the House. Which they did not have till this year.
They can, but it’s an extreme measure and they still need to go before a judge. Said judge is unlikely to support it unless they’ve tried less extreme measures first.
The Dems have had subpoena power for three years? Strange, I thought the Republicans controlled everything for the first two years.
Don’t diss Kermit, he’s been through some shit.
It’s one of the many reasons debates don’t work. In formal debate, you get punished for lying. In “debates” it’s up to the audience to decide which is true, and there’s usually no neutral moderator to call bullshit.
This seems less like “suspect[ing] they are actually powerless” and more like “realizing they have more ways to flex their muscles than they thought.”
It’s also a good example of how low the bar is to be considered a right wing intellectual. He’s practiced a few solid rhetorical tricks and based on that he’s one of the best they’ve got. Like how Paul Ryan was a policy wonk because he occasionally used numbers when he spoke.
His entire persona is wrapped around his being an Orthodox Jew. Religion is many things, but “facts over feelings” is not one of them.
He’s willing to listen to the other side, not his own side. Duh.
The problem is that “SIR. SIR. CAN I SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER SIR” is inherently coming from a place of flustered anger. While “what makes this peasant jew think he’s people” is based on a sense of superiority that’s completely incapable of acknowledging or bending to trivial things like “reality.”
