That’s a pretty fair point. I would agree that I think a lot of crime does stem from drug use/abuse, so if you can fight it at that level it would be a good starting point.

Interesting point. GM has basically lost $500 million in estimated profits, not just straight up liquid cash. If they aren’t building cars they aren’t paying for parts or labor, so it’s not like they are bleeding out nearly as fast as the article might seem. Sure, they are still paying salaried workers and other…
So a few questions regarding GM. One, if they were to give in to demands and spend a bunch more on each employee and hurt “the bottom line”, I assume that would upset investors when the earnings report goes around, who would then pull cash, which would make GM have to downsize even more, which means more workers lose…
What’s the alternative though? If there are 5 people committing crimes and one gets caught and doesn’t say anything, that’s 1 person in jail for a longer time and 4 people still on the street committing crimes. If the one person says something and gets a reduced sentence, that’s 1 person in jail for less time and…
Straws can sometimes be seen as a “germaphobe” option too. Not that it would make a huge difference as you have a liquid in a tainted cup already, but do you want to put your lips on a glass that you know nothing about or a fresh straw straight out of a wrapper? It’s like shaking hands with a stranger. They could be…
Yeah, that thought had crossed my mind a few minutes after I made that post as I was thinking about the definition more. Still feels like they could have picked better wording though.

Yeah, kinda almost has a Ford vs Ferrari feel to it in a way. Not quite the same, but similar mentality to some degree.
Pacqui makes some pretty good spicy chips too. The first one I ever had was their buffalo flavor, which had a pleasant level of spiciness that had you going back for more. When I tried to find them around me (Walmart carries the brand here at least), they didn’t have the buffalo flavor, but did have a ghost pepper. …
I’d wonder though if you only have one entity trying to set prices and some hospitals say they won’t perform a specific operation for that price or one particular medication isn’t covered, that means everyone is screwed. With multiple insurance options you can potentially pick a plan that is better suited for your…
I hear there are plenty of Takata takeouts available somewhere...
I’m not sure you really can mandate retrofitted safety gear though. Those systems are so ingrained in the structure of the car itself and have extensive testing done on them. It’s not like you can just stick an airbag on a steering wheel with an accelerometer. You have to make sure it’s the right shape, inflates…
It would seem though that they should be suing the insurance company then, not Kevin himself. Though I guess sometimes you have to go through the person to get to the insurance. I know my wife has been dealing with this as she was in a car accident several years ago where someone rear ended her and messed up her back…
Drum brakes will stop you just fine, but they might only do it once or twice. My brother had a 69 Charger with a 440 and power drums all the way around with a twitchy brake pedal. It would go from nothing to slam your face into the steering wheel in about 1/4" of travel the way the brake booster came on or something.
When you get to those power levels though even the modern stability systems can’t save you from stupid. They are designed to help you when you push a little past the limit, not long jump way to the other side of the line.
I think some trucks still have rear drum. Most class 8 heavy duty trucks are still drums too actually. They have better surface area so they are actually capable of applying more stopping torque (at least in that application), albeit they have more issues with fade. Chrysler only went away from rear drums based on…
But that would mean that every dealer that sells a high performance car is liable until the new owner has some experience driving it, or would be liable for any injuries experienced during a test drive. Everyone is new to something at one point in their life. You can’t have experience without doing something to begin…
How is that any different from modifying a modern car to make more power though? I could take a stock Vette and slap a supercharger on it and make 700+ horsepower and make it “less safe”. Or I can buy that from the factory already as a ZR1 that has the same safety equipment as the base model. I don’t see any way that…
Looks like a pretty nice build at least.
I’d like to drive one some day just to see what it’s like. I’ve grown up spoiled with sports cars and plenty of torque, so driving the “average” car is kinda soul sucking to me. My old 71 Vette isn’t very powerful, but it does have some pretty good torque to make up for it, so it still throws you in the seat a bit,…
