So I realize that it’s no longer with us, but this is pretty much exactly what the Viper plant was, minus the white everywhere. Hand built, a few a day, quiet, clean, etc. It’s not like this is the first.

Yeah, 1000 hp on 93 octane is what I read. Might have been elsewhere, but it’s still “pump” gas in some places.
It was a 68 Charger, so 50 years from that. Every new model year goes on sale the year before. It’s completely stupid, but it’s the way it seems to work around the US. I’m fine with just saying it’s the 50 year anniversary of a 1968 model year car.
Their engines are mostly Mexico at least, so they could hang around as just Mopar and do crate stuff.
The interesting thing here though is the architecture is all aluminum. Not sure if that would fly for a rugged production truck engine, but could be wrong.
The Viper IRS will put up with it, but I’m not sure what it’s durability would be like if used regularly. I know of several Vipers pushing 1000+ to the tires that survive fairly well.
A gen 2?
With enough money you can make it “fit” in anything.
I’m not sure range parity is the real issue. I think refueling time is what is ultimately holding back more widespread adoption. I don’t care if my electric car can last a week without a charge like my gasoline car can go without a refuel. I care that I can fill it up in 3 minutes when I leave for work the next…
Ah, that makes things more interesting. About the only way around that is burning less fuel or someone making a very compact CO2 scrubber or something.
Yeah, I guess they have a point in that it’s easier to build a line into the structure while it’s under construction than to do it after when you might have to remove stuff. I would still agree it’s a bit of an odd point to make regarding emissions. I guess ultimately it makes them more palatable to the general…
In response to GM’s “chargers in every new home”, that only really works if you have standardized car charging. I realize we’re kinda there, but not quite. I think it would make more sense to say “EV charger ready” and just have a 220v hook up box in the garage for whatever they come up with. If DC fast charge becomes…
I’ve always thought these were the most adorable cars, now you’ve topped it and made it even more adorable.
Yeah, I know what you mean and that’s the struggle I’d have if it really came down to it. I’ve kept my first car and my latest motorcycle for the same reason. I could always get a better example of my first car, but it wouldn’t be the same. The motorcycle really isn’t anything special and it’s not like my first one…
Oh yeah, they are pretty well aware. I’ve told my mom numerous times that if she ever thinks about selling her car I’d probably buy it from her just to keep it around since it’s so collectable. I also just live 2 blocks from them and we hang out regularly, so it’s not like I’d be flying cross country or anything to…
I think the thing that keeps nagging at me is what I’m going to do with my parents’ cars when their time finally comes. I hope to have another good 20-30 years with them, so maybe the issue will sort itself out, but my mom has a 94 Viper that I certainly hope she doesn’t get rid of any time soon. I really like that…
I wonder if some of this list is catering to all the different regions that the original system was released in. While some of those games might not be nearly as popular state-side, I wonder if they had bigger followings in Japan or something.
Not sure it’s that good of a work truck anymore when you have a fuel cell with exposed wires and hoses in the bed... It appears to be somewhat flush mounted, so it’s not a big box bolted to the top of the bed, but it still basically makes half the bed unuseable with the hoses and whatnot.
I think one of the things that I always liked most about the Viper though was that pretty much every version of the car is a complete badass. Admittedly it’s not like the stock Vette is a slouch, but compared to the top of the line one, there’s a pretty significant differential. The main difference between Vipers is…
Have you seen the powerband on one? It doesn’t really care what gear you’re in with the torque it puts out. I get 400+ ft-lbs out of 530 max from 1500+ rpm. It’s not like a boosted engine or high rpm screamer.
