The thing is not even a large number of police officers assholes. It’s just the assholes tend to be the loudest which has given a negative impression of the rest of them. There are probably a lot more like this guy than you would think.

Infinity gold stars to you, good sir! Preach the word to the uninformed.

That’s the beauty, once you do all of this. You only have to do a maintenance wash every 2 weeks with soap and water to get the dirt off the sealant. And sealant last anywhere from 3-6 months depending on conditions. And if you wanna blow you mind even more there are silica coatings that harden into glass and can last

I have a Porter Cable that I bought years ago and it works great, but the hot ticket in DA polishers right now is indeed the Rupes Bigfoot. Gets the job done much faster than the Porter. I agree that you’ve got to get rid of the green thing. You’re doing yourself and your car no favors with that turd.

My advice: Don’t use a microfiber wash mitt or towel. You’re not scrubbing your car (at least you shouldn’t be) so you don’t need all that extra cleaning power. Plus; they hold onto dirt much too well and are a pain to rinse out. Just like you don’t want to use a clay bar after hitting the ground, you don’t want to

The last step for me is to watch the previously unpredicted rain start to hit my sparkling car

Yep, I have one too. Definitely helps with the idea that you should touch the (unprotected) paint as little as possible.

I’ve been reading a lot of trade detailing blogs lately and this is a pretty spot-on overview. Some of the things I’ve picked up in my reading -

i would recommend 2 bucket system and grid guard in both to further reduce fine scratches from dirt and grime. Also as others have mentioned, always wash in straight lines, not in circular motions as that’s what you see under direct sunlight (spider web). Other than that, pretty spot on so cheers!

A few notes:

Larry over at AMMO NYC is the man when it comes to the proper way to detail a car. He features high-end sports cars regularly in his videos, so he has to know what he’s doing. Check it out.

EP the extra-professional.

An interesting, and disheartening thing I learned about pressure washers when working for a home improvement store is the expected life of light, medium, and heavy duty pressure washers. If you actually read the manufacturer rating on light duty pressure washers, from nearly all vendors, you will find they are ‘rated’
