This report had me seeing red when I first read it. I convinced so many of my friends and family to donate to the Red Cross after the earthquake in Haiti, and to think it didn’t help a single person is absolutely sickening.

I used to work in international aid, although not as a front line worker, and I’m honestly not surprised at this. Charities already have the upper hand when they go into these countries because of what they have to give: money, food, shelter, free labor, etc. Combine that with the fact many corrupt governments are

I get what you’re saying, and I respect your view even if I don’t share it, and ultimately I think it’s a decision everyone has to make on their own. Everyone has their own red lines and what I really dislike the current trend of shaming people for their views and the obnoxious accusations of being complicit.

I think it’s a personal decision people have to make on their own. Some people can separate the two, some people can’t. Some people can for dead artists but not for ones still living. What I don’t understand is why it’s so hard to respect people’s choices? If you don’t want to watch Woody Allen movies, I don’t give a

I separate the art from the artist for current and past artists and I don’t use the crimes of dead people as a justification. I just don’t think I have to justify my views at all, or apologize for them, but then I also refuse to take part in the bullshit shaming/call out culture that’s becoming so pervasive.

We should focus our WA-related outrage miles on blasting those who defend him and/or say Dylan is lying. If there is any outrage left over, spend it giving side eye to people tripping themselves to work with him (which will hopefully be less and less). Anything else, is just overkill. Like I said before, I think he is

So many of these people are wealthy enough that they could never produce another thing in their entire life and still live comfortably as they please. Never seeing another Woody Allen or Harvey Weinstein movie is going to have zero impact on enabling them.

Disagree. This doesn’t make me mad at her. It makes her seem reasonable and thoughtful.

The issue is that Jezebel, on a slow day, has decided to use the tired old “Hey I’m gonna make you mad at one of your legitimate heroes who has said something imperfect!” gimmick for clickbait.

It made money because people generally have poor taste. Fuck 50 Shades and all of the abuse that it normalizes and fuck all the men and women who think that it’s hot and sexy.

I personally try to not delve into the reasons WHY these women wear hijabs, and instead try to focus on the fact that they are CHOOSING (even if that may be because of family or cultural pressures) to wear them.

I am not in favor of banning hijabs or otherwise limiting people’s practice of religion or their dress. Though you have to wonder a bit about the intellectual consistency of a website that in back to back articles mocks Canadian figure skating for clutching pearls about a crotch to the face in competition, then

Smash the patriarchy!

I’d agree. I’m regular Jewish, and the majority of us (reform and conservative Jews) find Orthodox Judaism’s treatment of women to be misogynistic and anachronistic at best, repulsive and disgusting at worst. Although Orthodox Jewish women don’t wear hijabs, they are required to cover all of their limbs at all times

For the hijab, I believe that there is one big thing at play when it comes to white women defending it:

It is more harmful than turbans and other religious garb. Its origins in the Quran stem from the belief that women are responsible for mens behavior/desires and that a woman who is uncovered deserves poor treatment and harassment. You couldn’t make a more misogynistic tradition in a lab.

How are Hijabs NOT a symbol of oppression? How are they NOT derived from the principle that women are responsible for men’s sexual desires, and distract them from piety with their immodesty? Is anyone here who defends the hijab also a big fan of the burqa? Chastity belts? If not, why not?

They can’t even be bothered with making a post about girls in Haiti being abused by “aid workers”.

Lot’s of time for this but not on article on Iranian women being imprisoned for taking off the Hijab in public . Jezebel has zero credibility.

Great. More crap for religious weirdos.
