I separate the art from the artist for current and past artists and I don’t use the crimes of dead people as a justification. For the hijab, I believe that there is one big thing at play when it comes to white women defending it:

It is more harmful than turbans and other religious garb. Its origins in the Quran stem from the belief that women are responsible for mens behavior/desires and that a woman who is uncovered deserves poor treatment and harassment. You couldn’t make a more misogynistic tradition in a lab.
