Odd how two Republican congressmen from California who voted to raise taxes on their own constituents to finance tax cuts for the super-rich are now retiring. It’s almost like they know that they are slightly less popular in their districts than a herpes flare-up.

this way you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes

I agree. She identified the fact that millennial women don’t take to the super airbrushed, “cover everything” mentality of advertisements from Lauder, L’Oreal, and the like. And now those companies are scrambling to be like her. Make fun of it all you want - she’s laughing her way to the bank.

I understand the point of the last paragraph. I just find it anti-feminist. Using the actions of a few women to halt ALL celebration of ALL successful women is exactly what men do when casting doubt on rape accusations or women’s professional capabilities. She dropped out, so women just can’t handle computer science.

Never tried any Glossier, but in general for honest, unedited reviews try MakeupAlley.com. Average ratings there are always lower than on the vendors’ own websites, and that’s how you know the brands are filtering negative reviews. The bloggers and magazines are almost always on the take, so I don’t trust them either.

Wow. Could they make “MAN” any bigger in that photo caption? It’s like they heard that there were women using their own voices and they just...panicked.

If it began with any piece of reporting, it began with this piece by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey in The New York Times, which predates Farrow’s report by five days.

The final paragraph, where they compare her to a sexual harasser and then close with “she should be put under more scrutiny” is chilling to me. Is this what passes as feminism now, encouraging everyone to be suspicious of successful women? Keeping them under a magnifying glass and waiting for them to do something

I know nothing about Glossier, but I’m really over Jezebel’s salty attitude towards anything/everyone (except Cardi B apparently).

i agree! i feel like i’m taking crazy pills that we’re the only ones pushing back on this!

I am not getting the hate / snark of this article. Yes, Weiss had loads of privilege that helped and supported her trajectory. But she’s not denying that. And even with privilege, successfully launching a multi-million dollar company, by 32 no less, is damn impressive. We saw a number of exposes over the past year

Another snarky article about Emily Weiss and Glossier. Geez Jezebel, why the hatred? Weiss obviously worked hard for it, starting when she was 15. I use quite a number of their products even though I’m An Old. Some are really good, (as in: I keep repurchasing them) they are reasonably affordable, they look cute. From

I gave up on acronyms when the creator of GIFs decided it’s pronounced “Jiff”. The G stands for Graphics.

My feelings on the entire “SHE-E-O” thing. Yes, we need more female CEO’s for a variety of reasons. But don’t other them into this whole cutesy bullshit new thing. She is a CEO and deserves all the praise and scrutiny that comes from being a CEO of a successful business. And that’s it.

I will never understand Jezebel’s hatred of this company or the woman who founded it. She runs a successful company. People like her products and buy them. What is the problem here? It must be vast, considering the number of column inches Jezebel writers devote to bitching about Glossier, and yet I can never find any

“aims to turn a profit in an industry where female empowerment is slyly commodified under the guise of (white) feminism.”

That August, sitting on a beach in Connecticut with her parents, she made up her mind. “ ‘Guys, I think I’m going to start a blog,’ ” she told them. “ ‘It’s going to be about women and putting them and their narrative and their story at the forefront and giving them a voice and a platform and just really encouraging

Translation: “I was an attractive, wealthy woman who made the patriarchy work for me, and I don’t like seeing that status quo challenged.”

Yep. In the same way the “Black Lives Matter” has been deliberately misconstrued to “why do you think white lives don’t matter”?

Maybe they need to be reminded how the Maginot Line was penetrated without their consent.
