Can modern cars be set so the car is running but locked? I guess anything with a spare key could do it right?

Back when these keypads starting showing up on Fords (circa 1980) a “minicomputer” was the size of two refrigerators standing side by side.

I just know some day I’ll get home and the power will be out and I’ll be locked out of my house. That’s why I had some keys made and stashed them in the yard. No idea where, but they’re probably still stashed.

Our Explorer had this (the Explorer is gone now). It was great for doing all the things you said - locking stuff in the car without worrying about keys, getting back into the car when the keys are locked in, etc.

after college I bought an off lease 97 Explorer. It was a bank lease turn in that I bought from the bank so no one had the code. It was printed on the factory speaker amp in the cargo area panel. It was not easy to locate..........
