Actually in Michigan it’s much worse than that. In your example of a car/motorcycle accident, the car’s insurance pays for the motorcyclist’s hospital bills...regardless of fault or helmet. Motorcycles don’t carry PIP insurance...so by law it defaults to the car’s insurance.

Michigan rider here....they actually do argue that it’s more dangerous to wear a helmet. ABATE is a group that were pushing for this repeal. They went as far as saying that the extra weight of the helmet on your head caused in increase in neck injuries due to whiplash.

My parents owned one of these as I was growing up. I was the child that always had to sit in the back fold out seats because the 3 sisters got to sit up in the regular seats.
