My main guess is honestly just that there’s more risk involved with older actors. They might have less stamina which would restrict the demanding hours of shooting schedules, they might uh, die, etc. But I agree that Whoopi looks a lot younger than her age and the make-up artist really has their work cut out for them.

People bashed Dragon Age 2's tactic of making all the romance options bisexual but I think it was one of the better solutions. Writing wise I prefer the romances of Dragon Age Inquisition.
Same sex romances in other Bioware games have received mixed reviews but they still make an effort that other studios have not.
