Mass shootings don’t happen in movie theaters every day, but it only takes one guy with a gun to ruin a “family” outing.

Can I just say I fucking hate the combination of all sites? Posters I have never seen in my ten years of being here and all of a sudden they show up. What a surprise. This used to be a safe place for women and whatever Jezebel is now is not remotely like it.
She could have gotten $30k towards her medical bills, she opted to be greedy. This isn’t because she is grieving, she wanted more money. Just because a person is hurt, doesn’t mean that they also can’t be an ass.
It’s rooted in common and law and codified civil procedure. Basically, it’s a deterrent to people bringing frivolous lawsuits, i.e. bring a lawsuit against someone or a company as a form of harassing or scaring them. It’s law 101 that whether you’re a plaintiff or defendant, you ask the court to award costs in case…
It’s not like theater shootings are happening around the clock. I mean, if you don’t take your kids to a movie theater because there might be a shooting, shouldn’t you never take them on a road trip because highway accidents happen? Never let them ride a bike because they might get hit by a car or fall and break a…
oh that sounds reasonable then
So people who sue and lose and cost the defendant money should only sometimes be responsible for their actions?
I’m kinda with this. Also, HOLY FUCK litigation is expensive. It’s not like the plaintiffs made the cinema get the most expensive lawyers they could find, and why then should they have to foot the bill according to that choice. Seems there should be a fair market price that should be paid and the difference is just…
Won’t bother me or (I’m guessing) the majority of cinema-goers.
They offered then a pretty good settlement considering they were found not liable already and were clearly not at fault. And the plaintiffs didn’t take it.
State court, state laws. I’m guessing Colorado got itself some “tort reform.” This is exactly what trial lawyers told them would happen, but everyone loves to hate trial lawyers, even though they are right about almost every issue.
Not trying to be dense, but can you explain what you mean? If you were hosting a dinner party and people barged into your house — are you responsible? I understand if they’d been negligent or unsafe, but it doesn’t seem like that was the case.
The initial lawsuit was pretty damn frivolous, though.
I dunno, they gave the plaintiffs a pretty good settlement offer considering that they were already found not liable in state court.
Not really. Hopefully people will think twice next time an ambulance chasing lawyer calls them.
I will be interested to see if Cinemark actually pursues the enforcement of this order. It’s one thing to have the order, it’s another to actually pursue these people with things like wage garnishment, etc.
What is a raisin fart?! Is this referring to someone being thirsty (like dried up) and stinky? Or is it a fart that smells like raisins? Or a raisin that smells like a fart? Or is it a little constipated turd pebble that looks like a raisin? Or is it just called such because raisins and farts are both horrible things…
No kidding. Tamir Rice he ain’t.
Worst record promotion ploy ever.
Read Michael Jackson and to a lesser degree Prince. They were both crazy and lived in a palace. Does being excellent at dancing and music raise your likelihood of also being nuts?
