Exactly my response.

Ummm. How can you claim Lois Lane originated the archetype if Torchy Blane came first? In fact, I would say the character Lois matures into the archetype set by the Torchy Blane movies and the fast-talking, suit & fedora-wearing, sharp women of the 30's and early 40's screwball comedies.

If you are going to include other fast-talking, brilliant female reporters, you shouldn’t neglect Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday.  Good grief, she and Cary Grant even look like Lois and Clark.

I agree!  (But it would still be nice to tie off all those loose threads.)

At the end, I wondered why no one in the cast said to Mr. Chibnall, “But what happened to the spiders?!” What did they know that we didn’t?

Ah! This makes much more sense. I could not think of anything remotely humane about letting them starve to death. I am going to accept your explanation so I don’t have to keep wondering what happened to those blasted spiders.

Here’s one Yank who is not worried about that at all.  After all, we think we can do stories about the Blitz in WWII and understand the scale and scope of both the fear and the stoicism.  I’m pretty sure Ms. Blackman will have both empathy and knowledge well in hand.

I agree with you. But then I also was a fan of the Murray Gold soundtrack—especially as associated with Ten and Eleven. I never fell in love with the themes he wrote for Twelve. I have listened to some of Akinola’s other work, though, and I like some of it...so I am going to hope that it becomes more effective as time

Good thing it is bigger on the inside!

She is amazing!  What a breath of fresh air she is going to bring to Doctor Who--I cannot to see her in action.

He’s great and I am completely satisfied. Most pleasingly, at times he uses really strong rhythm and he uses voice choir atmospherically--two things I loved about Gold’s work.  I will be adding some of Akinola’s Doctor Who music to my Doctor playlist, I’m sure.  Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for the links!  I had read about Mr. Akinola already, and that excited me, but I’ll be very happy to hear some of his work.

I will!  Thanks for the rec!

Oh absolutely.  Give me Olivia as the Doctor and I would be thrilled!  That woman can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.

“Blink” is first on my list if someone wants to see what Doctor Who is like—especially since it doesn’t require needing to know anything (really) about a specific Doctor.

Ah! It is really only I09 with which I participate. I’ll have to wait until the powers that be decide to follow me then! Thanks for providing an answer.

Olivia Coleman would have been brilliant...but I think she’s going to be busy with The Crown.

Yes...anytime a new Doctor comes along is a good time to jump in.  And if you love it and you want some suggestions of other great episodes to catch, just shout.

NOW I’m excited. Before, I was pleased with the choice of Whittaker for the Doctor, because I loved her work in Broadchurch (and when I looked at footage of her Antigone with Eccleston at the National Theatre, I knew she could do the fierceness necessary). But this trailer makes me truly excited for her to get

I’m pretty sure the voice-over, while applicable to the plot of new companions joining the Doctor, is written for us, the viewers.  And I am ready to jump in the TARDIS now!  Must we wait?
