This is a steaming-hot taek.
This is a steaming-hot taek.
“I want ice cream.” = “Immigrants are rapists and murderers.”
Nothing he said was wrong (though whether there was general conflation was debatable - on the macro level it seemed like there was - maybe not as much on the micro level). He just said something not 1000% in-line with utter, complete outrage at a time when “ain’t nobody got time for that”, especially from a male of…
1. Twitter rolled out 280 characters widely in November, while #metoo went viral on social media (are you for real? Of course metoo is considered first and foremost a social media campaign) in October.

I know there are some people that feel like any situation is worth joking about.
I know more than a couple women (including survivors) who reject the #metoo movement because they believe it lumps together rape and harassment too casually. It’s not an insignificant point.
You didn’t even remotely come off as an asshole. You aren’t an asshole. I hope I didn’t either. But I can be.
I appreciate the feedback, I hope I didn’t seem like an a$$hole or anything. I don’t really have time right now to write an essay, but I tend to respond to criticism of left of center white guys from the left because it obviously touches a nerve for me personally. Matt Damon certainly doesn’t need me to defend him. 1)…
It was before Franken stepped down, I believe. It’s still not conflating the acts. No one said Franken should be convicted. (And I don’t agree with how it went down.) They said the party can’t protect men who assault women (and he was alleged to have unwanted touching) and still claim the moral high ground.
Wasn’t the timing of Damon’s comments right around when Al Franken was pressured to resign by his own party (not arguing merits here) while the opposing party was doubling down on support (or at least public indifference) of an accused (with lots of evidence) child molester running for Senate? I believe the logic that…
No. People are mad because he was suggesting people were conflating the two, in the first place. And they aren’t.
Yours might an unpopular confession, but if people are being honest it’s not exactly an uncommon one either.
This is such an important comment.
Unpopular confession: I have said no when what I meant was, “I’m going to pretend I don’t want to have sex right away because I don’t want you to think I’m a slut but I definitely want to have sex.”
I’m shocked(!) to find out you weren’t interested in hearing an opinion that was not your own.
I don’t think it’s quibbling to draw a distinction between what is actually assault and an action that isn’t.
I think that’s a (deliberate?) misreading of Weiss’ piece.
Bullshit.
This is a generational misunderstanding too. I know everyone is in a rush to dismiss the opinions of anyone over 35, but you’ll notice a divide in the reactions. #old
