Ok. that does it. no more reading comments here. think I'll try NYTimes.

Yes, Garfinkel's still existed in 1984. It closed in 1990, due to too many mergers and acquisitions (such as Raleigh's & Co., another local DC chain.)

All this talk of food makes me realize there is a little Russian cafe within walking distance from my house. I've never bothered going. Maybe I'll stop in.

It's called relative morality.

Stan feels guilty b/c he fucked up parenting with his own son, Matthew. It's easier parenting somebody else's kid anyway. Throw in a few hours and they're out the door. Big whoops.

Stan is emotionally stunted. Repressed. Never learned to express his feelings. He actually needed those EST sessions, or something like EST (a more grounded therapy with less profit motivation) and as any kindergarten teacher will tell you, boys are far more fragile emotionally than girls. Yet we force them to become

Ha! Good luck with that strategy.

and the shitty way he treated his wife?
and the shitty way he treated his mistress?
and his shitty parenting of Matthew? leaving all the bringing up to Sandra, and basically ignoring the kid through his growing-up years until he is older, and doesn't want to be bothered with dad?

You can say that again.

All one has to do to reduce spoilage of wheat, as we've discovered the world over, is to separate the germ from the whole grain.

Making one back at you. Popular Mobilization for the L is right.

I didn't see the title of this show mentioned in the review nor in the comments. It definitely gave me a jolt when I saw it. (I'm a year behind in viewing The Americans, and am writing this in April 2017).

I'm only now watching Season 4, so I'm commenting. Doesn't Philip want to let his hair down, even if it is with Martha? After all, he's going to EST! Roger, you remember your first EST sessions, don't you?

It absolutely did. Remember the last scene of that epi. They sat down to tea, or dinner, and Martha continued to feed Philip/Clark FBI office details. In that moment, you realize she's going to continue her informant role, even though Martha now realizes she is married to a spy.
