Maybe the problem is with the term “pansexual” which is fucking stupid, and as you pointed out, insulting to anyone who is trans as it implies they aren’t really the gender they say they are.

You’re not the only one that reads it that way. This is one of those words a reporter can use (perhaps subconsciously, perhaps not) to immediately shade the narrative. Richies have estates; crazies have compounds.

If I’m reading it correctly, she claimed to be 8, the bone density test said she was 14, and the Barnett’s had it “corrected” to 22 so they could put her in an adult treatment program. So they’re being charged for abandoning a 14 year old.

Those parents sound like they’re full of shit when it comes to her likely age when they abandoned her, though.

The Jezebel summary is very misleading because it is all the parent’s side of the story and doesn’t mention the stuff at the end of the Daily Mail article that contradicts everything the woman says. An other earlier story also claims that medical doctors said she was either 8 or 11.

Okay I hate to give the Daily Mail.... any of my clicks.... but the more I read, the more this actually sounded to me like some very disturbed parents who couldn’t handle their adopted child and concocted a weirdly elaborate delusion. Am I the only one who read it that way?

At the end of the article, the police have countered the confession made by Barnett. I think she just didn’t like the child anymore and wanted to get rid of her.

There is more to it than this. Can we read the story in a real newspaper at least?! Oh look! It's also being covered in the Washington Post!
