Your company sounds like mine.

I honestly don’t understand why more workplaces don’t try to foster the kind of culture that mine has. Happy people are better workers.

Also the competitiveness of our society. The bootstraps approach. If you work more you’re obviously a better person who is loyal to the company. A valuable asset because you’re willing to make sacrifices.

Exactly! I’m turning 30 in a few weeks and I’m contemplating on whether or not I want to stay in this for the long run. Promotions are rare, people work crazy hours and there’s too much cliques here. I was on national broadcasting and now I’m on local broadcasting for the same account which is well known telephone

I’m too a graphic designer. I graduated in 2009, when people were cutting marketing budgets left and right, so I eventually ended up in-house for a tech manufacturer. It wasn’t glamorous and particularly creative so I wasn’t thrilled with it at the time, but I’m very thankful for it today. Like you, it’s in at 8,

That sounds so nice. I work in the kind of office where the day after Thanksgiving is an optional holiday, and the CEO walks around that Friday to see who is at their desks. I’m a manager in a department that “has to” have coverage if the office is open, which means I always work that day because I let all my people

Yeah I know some people who really love it. And there *are* good agencies out there. That said, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who has any other interests in life.

Bingo. They work those crazy hours so they can justify billing their clients so much so that they can work those crazy hours. Its insane. They will spend several hours arguing over the font size for an internal print campaign for something when they could easily just pick one and the client would not know the

It’s such bullshit! In other countries, the work culture allows for people to work reasonable hours and take tons of vacation, and their economies don’t collapse for lack of productivity. It’s our puritanical legacy mixed with misplaced faith in supply-side economics, I think.

I run a small (tiny) business, and really, this law is looooong overdue. Pay people for the work they do or for the hours they work, and stop making excuses about how this will hurt - think of the people working long, hard hours for minimal compensation. If overtime is expensive for the employer in dollars, it is even

I don’t think jail would actually help. I would like to see them have to work in some way with victims of domestic violence, sex trafficking and rape so they can see firsthand why this was so wrong and that you’re not without fault just because you didn’t penetrate her with your penis.

Shit, this breaks my heart.

A nearly had a rage stroke when some POS radio station down here in “marry your first cousin land” posted the story a week or so ago with the caption “How Would You Discipline YOUR Daughter.” No shit.

I was told strawberry was the most tolerable...as I chugged my second container of “banana” and used pure willpower to keep it down.

Yup. Currently dealing with a close friend who only got a mammogram done as a way to guilt her mom into getting *hers* done. Mom is fine, friend has an aggressive cancer that she had no clue about. (Prognosis is good because they caught it in the nick of time, fortunately.)

Yea but think about how well last year’s jean will fit after that massive toilet flood!

I have a female friend who, at 26, has never been to an OBGYN (she’s very devout, and feels like it is unnecessary since she’s abstinent). I was mortified when I found out.

My friend had a colonoscopy last year. The day before, she had to guzzle down magnesium citrate and she never shat so much in her life. Also, she could eat nothing during the “flushing” phase. I never saw her anticipate a meal so hard in her life as afterwards. So part of “how a colonoscopy feels” is gnawing hunger,

THANK YOU for this. Thank you. If even one person reads this and thinks “damn, I oughta schedule a [medical test]” then you might have saved a life today.

“A nearby surveillance camera shows multiple cars passing by the scene as Di Pietrantonio screamed for help. Monteleone notes that had someone stopped, her life might have been saved.”
