Omg you people are funny.

Smart man

You clearly have the chops to build a good truck, get a better platform that you can continue to improve year over year. Increase the level of difficulty you tackle year over year. Push the limits. I've seen stock minivans do fins n things.

For the love of god man, next time come borrow my truck and take it to Moab, write about what a luxury it is to have heated and cooled seats, and how nice it was to focus on the sights and trip itself, not worried about running our of gas and freezing your tail off!

Why do you keep calling this the $500 postal Jeep? You’ve spent thousands of dollars in labor and parts, and prob lost even more in emotional anguish. I do wish you best of luck though. Moab is one of my favorite places, but no chance I'd find what you're doing even remotely enjoyable 🤣

A Suburus CVT tranny will litterally shut off if if goes up a streap grade for too long. Not even remotely a solid argument, as the other guy said, they are fine, will get you 80% of places. But it’s that other 20% that is oh so precious where you don’t see anyone.

Dear David, just earlier this week I wrote what a waste of time, money, and resources this was. Like I said, that bloke should have paid you $500 to take that Heep! 😂

What a collosal waste of time, money, and resources, that person should have paid you $500 to take it away! What's the end goal for this "jeep"?

Maybe if it were 4x4, or even better a 6x6, wheelbase is a bit long too.

No those that messed up Joshua tree were just your average a-holes, not professionals. It’s like saying all gun people are bad. Or all cops are dirty. There are bad apples everywhere, and some of the Joshua tree damage was done by... Your average motorists trying to get around locked gates. Not “off-roaders”.

How about an old Montero?

How do you get $3000 profit margin? He said it would cost $38k to MAKE, if they sold for $35k it would be at a loss of more than $3k. They would have to make it (including csts to distribute and sell it) for $32k to make $3k in profit. The rest of the thought is certainly interesting and a good idea!

Great article, funny and poetic, yet sad.

I was thinking along these same lines. Just because a car/truck is cheap to buy and fix doesn’t mean it’s actually cheap and worth it in the long run. Wrenching can be fun don’t get me wrong but so can spending that time off-road, camping, whatever... Or flat out doing something fun you've never done before. Or making

Accept that it’s not free money if you consider how much you’ll lose in depreciation and factor total cost of ownership vs buying a 3yr old car and selling it 5yrs later. Not only do you spend less, but you aren't stuck driving a 8 to 15 year old vehicle. But hey to each their own.

Which is about 99 percent more than anyone else does, and 100 more than you do.

Good lord, how much is Volvo paying writers to include articles with “Off Road” in the title, have seen so many in the past couple days from different outlets which makes me think it’s not a coincidence.

Why spend the extra money? What do you get?

Actually, depends where you live and what circles you run with. Out here, out west, off-loading, true off-loading is very common. I would agree though that no one should buy a V60 anything to "off-road". I don't like vehicles that do everything OK but nothing exceptionally well. This car will do ok on fire roads, but

Wifes S60 feels the same way, except that its hard to actually find a position that on a long trip is comfortable. Has a lot to do with sitting low vs upright like in a proper SUV so your legs can dangle a bit.
