I miss when Down On the Street was a regular thing on Jalopnik.

I’m starting to feel that auto journalists are too critical of automotive styling in particular these days. I’m struggling (at least with mainstream models), where everyone’s drawing the line between bland and exciting.
I remember when 90s models were considered boring. Now everyone praises them for their minimalist…
Further evidence that Torchinsky is my spirit animal (or journalist...or something).
I too, like the Mirage.
First of all, I like it.
Second, let’s consider for a moment, that all of the hardcore fans thought the last two generations of Eclipse were awful, and the brand was dead to them anyway. If Mitsu really wants to bring in a sexy, driver-focused coupe, they have tons of other great names they can use that aren’t dead…
Not a huge difference, but they definitely took a tiny step backwards on what I think is one of the best-looking cars on the road.
Batou drives something that looks VERY much like an Alfa SZ Zagato in the anime. These are cool, but hearing about the Alfa was one of the things that made me watch the original movie.
I actually kind of dig the way that thing looks.
I’ve spent a lot of time behind the wheel of the top spec cars, and I can certifiably say that it’s one of the most fun sedans I’ve ever driven. I actually can’t think of a similar car I’ve enjoyed driving more.
I was going to go with Volvo. Everything post-XC90 just looks so well-judged. Reminds me of a 90s Lexus or an early 2000s Audi. Clean styling, great attention-to-detail.
Ah man, don’t get me started about Japan. Remember the first few generations of car from Acura and Lexus? A lot of those cars (2nd-gen Legend in particular) have aged so well, they’re still handsome cars today. Compare that to that to everything they make now; everything is just so over-done. I prefer my cars to look…
I called an Uber in Istanbul, and was picked up in a very high-spec one of these. It’s one of those cars that’s actually very subtly pretty, and I was pretty impressed with it as a passenger. I feel like most cars these days end up being completely overstyled in an attempt to be “distinctive.” It’s almost a knee-jerk…
I will make this movie a success. The world must be given more like it.
So I’m well aware that Ford borrowed from LR’s forthcoming design language for the Explorer before they sold off the company. That said, the new Discovery still looks like a pre-facelift Explorer that got punched in the lip.
That’s basically the same movement my genitals did when they saw the wing go up.
The one car I always seem to find with a different name in every country is the Suzuki Cultus (second generation). This is what I pulled of Wikipedia, and I don’t think it even covers the full-range of names.
I think the Model 3's design is a train wreck, but I feel it might not have been designed for drivers. The future is coming...and we won’t be the one’s in the driver’s seat for very long.
I found myself less distracted, and able to see out the road better. Not everyone agrees with me, but I see merit in the design.
When done right, I actually prefer centrally-mounted gauges. A good example for me was the Echo/Yaris with the digital cluster. Good enough to get the info you need a glance, and freed up a ton of space in front of you.
