Glad to see that the US Postal Service did well. They are unfairly bashed so often. They've almost always done well for me, almost always at lower costs.

@spanky: I agree. Do it yourself at least once, if you can. The project benefits you now; the learning lasts your lifetime. For instance, I now know that I will never install another roof, ever!

@superflex007: In math classes is the worst! If the teacher says a step "obviously" follows from another and you don't see it, you're in a dilemma: Ask for clarification and appear to be an ignorant, or stay quiet and not understand. It's lazy teaching.

Here's another: When you hear "clearly," "certainly," or "obviously," what follows almost certainly isn't.

@tired999: A trickle flow is best; changing the water hourly approximates that. Problem is the water near the bird is very cold, slowing the thaw.

Best bet at this point would, of course, be to buy one that's not frozen. (Hint: Check Costco for some good non-frozen birds at a great price.)

All: If you're worried, skip the upload part or encrypt the file. Thought that was obvious enough.

Once every couple of months, lay your wallet contents out on your scanner and scan. Put the file in your dropbox or other on-line storage so you can get to it from wherever you are.

Clever example. As if clowns weren't scary enough.

I record model numbers for things like windshield wipers using my shopping list app. (I use SplashShopper). The item stays on your All list. When you check it, it is on your Need list. The notes tell what model (and sometimes, where it can be found).

Love that drain clearing tip. I want so much to see how it works, I am contemplating ways to clog a drain.

For $4-5 you can get a pair of elastic laces with a plastic device that lets you adjust the tightness and lock it in. Same idea as this, just a little more convenient.

@battra92: Dry means it was overcooked. Remove the bird when it's 150 in the breast and 160 in the leg and let it rest 45 minutes to increase 10 degrees more. Add 5 degrees if you are nervous.

@wjglenn: You don't even have to get up early. Brine the bird and take it only to 160 in the thigh and that will take maybe three hours.

@perry05: Leaving your oven on 250 overnight won't burn your house down.

I don't agree that this is deadly turkey. Anything over 140 will kill the bacteria. Rule is <2 hours below 140 and this method is using 400 for 30 minutes and essentially steaming it in foil in a 250 degree oven. They give a target internal temp of 155.
