A lot of reviews keep getting it wrong. So far no review has seemed to mention the fact that Chip's character is a total sociopath. If the ending seems realistic, it's because the whole town was under his spell of manipulation.

I was going to say the same thing. Not saying "Bullitt" is a bad movie, but there were already five James Bond films released before it. Then there was the Harry Palmer series. Even the action-packed 60s Batman series ran its course on television and became a pop culture hit before "Bullitt" was even in theaters.

Jess Conrad's "This Pullover" should be at the top of this list. It's considered to be one of the worst records of all time.
