I think I feel safer with a cab because I know what my rights are and feel that the city would have some recognition of those rights. And I know that 311 and the cops know what my rights in a cab are as well, should something happen. Whereas, unless (even if?) there’s a violent crime, I don’t know if Uber would do…

You can still do it this way. In fact, the rare direct flights from the US (they’ve added a NY flight to the previously existing Miami one) are still as restricted as before.
