If you watch the ‘behind the episode’ on that trunk wreck scene, you see Bob being filmed walking the road with a huge green screen erected behind him, then the wreck filmed separately.

I think the idea is that the metal forms a collar that slides down the barrel and pushes back the detents inside the lock body. Analogize it to a credit card supposedly being capable of pushing back a door latch.

Remember the ‘legendary’ jingle writer on Cheers who wrote every jingle to the tune of “Old McDonald?”

A commercial fryer with an electric element is a possibility, but I also worked Hardees in the late 80s and we had gas fired fryers. And from what I could piece together, from the scene and inference regarding the LPH business; 1) Gus loosened the gas line at least in fair proximity to the fryer. I inferred from that…

What I can’t figure is how did the burners heat the fryer, but not ignite the loosened gasline? [I already forgave the ‘bubbling’ oil as stagecraft]

No, ‘practical’ fire is accomplished with either a flammable gel [not gasoline, not as volatile] for person-involved burns , or strategically placed burn bars connected to propane lines for static shots/non-living objects such as cars and houses [controlled by gas jet routing mechanisms in the lines].

The narrative might have been leisurely and expositional, but that soundtrack was mesmerizing from start to finish.  I’d put that episode just for background listening with regularity.
