I should have clarified that my comment was for IFR flights, although you could always ask for flight following on your VFR flight as well.

You can file a plan on the phone or in the air if you are taking off from an untowered airport. You can file with the tower if taking off from a towered airport. The people taking care of you along the way are the air traffic controllers. If it’s a short hop, then you would just talk to the local towers. If longer,…

I’m sure this comment is entirely tongue in cheek, but just in case. The manual a/c is where you put a slider or dial in the position that you think is cool enough for you. The automatic a/c is where you select a temperature you want and the car doors the work to get you there.
