Side note: Merc GLA 200. Utter pile of overpriced junk. So the exact opposite of this thread's aim.   So much for the "free double upgrade"..  Drove like a car worth half the price. Nothing about it was premium. Also, Camaro SS 2017. Fast, sure, but being able to see out of a car helps... Good comedy value.

Mk 1 Ford Focus 1.8 Estate. Circa 2000. Touring the wilds of Scotland. They were brilliant handling cars with enough poke to be fun. Also notable, Mk 2 focus 1.4 in Cyprus. Gutless, but driving down the Troodos mountains, I remarked how great it was that our kids didn’t get car sick. Just them, the elder kid (then 5),

Counterpoint: Audi tt (2016). I am only 5'11" , and need to slide the seat the whole way back and down to fit.  Only car I have ever had to do that in.

The ES300h F-Sport. As an owner, there is nothing sporty about it. Adaptive dampers just make the ride rough. And the sport and sport plus modes merely make the throttle response “different”, not faster. Plus front wheel drive. The seats and triple adaptive LED headlights are nice though. But not sporty.

Came for this.  Feel vindicated.....

Can I sit this one out?

Solar for hot water. Well insulated house, drive gently. Think long and hard before I buy clothes/stuff.

Wife had to dump the 2001 Audi tt during pregnancy, and borrowed her mum’s car till first child arrived and she deliberated on what to drive. She couldn’t choose, so she took/was given my new 06' passat. I bought a 3 year old Renault Megane automatic because I had to drive in city traffic to work and was sick of the

As an occasional visitor: when I go to mainland EU, and the US, this Irish man has to adapt to the other side of the road. But in Europe, I’m surrounded by European drivers. US has too many aggressive Bro-dozers, and also, seriously sketchy drivers, plus, there is the general anger pervading the experience.

Had a 1st gen Audi tt, have 2016 tts. Neither is easy to get in and out of. Very low to ground, and long heavy doors. And a brute over speed bumps.

As Europeans, who had to drive stick, due to gutless automatics which no garage could repair, we are embracing good automatics in our crowded streets. 20+ years in stick, auto has been embraced now.  Reality is, the road where stick is better, are rarely driven..  And my wife was the one who was anti - auto waay

This is just a big pile of contradictory statements. It’s a residential cruise ship. Not a Yacht. Not that anything vaguely that big is really a Yacht.

The furthest I can drive is 250 miles or 4 1/2 hrs from home. I run out of Island....

Coffee tin. With metal lid. Stops proximity and buttons on both the lexus and audi. Also means you know where the damn keys are.

So the roads here (Ireland), may have a stretch where you could possibly overtake when there is no oncoming traffic.  But that "clear road" can sometimes be limited.  Or you misjudge something.  Being able to tip past the limit can actually be far safer.  Historically,  we had very gutless, underpowered cars here,

Another Irish person? Informal lessons from 17, got insured at 19 till 21. Failed test, took 2 years, out (insurance costs), then started again at 23, passed soon enough after when just 24. Got a job with a company car at 25, so was able to bypass Ireland's toe curling insurance premiums till I was no longer toxic to

Ok, so how do you overtake safely. 100kph Road. Truck doing 90. Do I creep past at 100, or glance off 110 to 120 and get passed and back on the correct side of the road much faster?

Add to that ESP . And modern tyres.

There has never been much demand in Europe for such a vehicle. Not enough utility as a vehicle. And its iconic brand means nothing here. To be honest, owning one = fashion victim here.

Heard the same in Ireland too.  Hence occasionally kipping in the passenger seat when camping and the tent is leaking, and leaving the keys out of the ignition.
