Parasites. "We're here! We're sincere! Get used to us!"
I've never once bought the Disney fairytale, actively never included finding "the one" on my to-do list, but deep, deep, deep down in my soul, I craved reciprocity, to feel my own level of passion reflected back upon me instead of feeling like I was throwing it all into a fucking black hole.
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I'm currently at what I really desperately hope is the space between your first and second paragraphs trying to put things back together after a terrible breakup with somebody who was just never going to feel the same way about me and just couldn't be bothered to move…
I am almost weeping reading this. Sometimes I am up to here with the "love yourself" rhetoric because Western culture is severely lacking in a dedication to community, but the advice in Polly's column is solid gold.

It tells you something that SAE, the national organization, pays the highest amount of liability insurance, more than any other in the Greek system.
I knew a guy in college who organized anti-rape and pro-body image events with his frat and would often wear a pink shirt that said "THIS IS WHAT A FEMINIST LOOKS LIKE." He was cute and funny and I thought, Wow, he must not be like the others.
Can I just issue a pre-emptive hope that Jez can avoid all the horrible "Hasn't this woman ever heard of birth control?" and similar comments that the Gawker version was inundated with? Beyond the fact that this woman's reproductive choices are none of your fucking business, honest to god, some people have children on…
Just come sit over here with us, we're #TeamJake.
