Just stop smoking. Change what you drink (I went from beer to whiskey) so you don’t have that association. Remind yourself it’s a choice you’re making, so keep carrying cigs but don’t smoke them. It gets a little better each day until one day you put the cigarettes on the porch, and a little later you throw them out.

They take my brother’s every.single.time. He never remembers to remove it. Usually shows up without toothpaste, too.
