To each his own dream action movie, I suppose, and I know nothing I type could possibly change your mind, but what you call generic plot I found to be streamlined and economical storytelling (opening scene setting up main protag as caring, loving, no nonsense family man, which plays off later on), weak

I don't think The King will win it this year (Verlander/Price/Sale/Weaver, I reckon), but, yeah, with his winning of it when he went 13-12 certainly points to a pretty big shift toward more modern, advanced stats determining the victor. I kind of alluded to that when I said how knuckleballers are somewhat screwed
