@nosnakes - You can check out The Grand Lake Theater's website weekly or just sign yourself up their weekly emails of what's playing. That's how I found out the were getting The Master in 70MM. Received that email right after I got an email saying I didn't get a dream job I had applied for, and it softened the blow

Ditto. I wasn't enamored with the [Rec] the first time I saw it (though it did improve for me with a 2nd viewing), but I really dug [Rec 2]. Did the smart sequel route in upping the action, get-some quotient by sending in the SWAT team, and while I found the religious aspect a bit of a letdown (didn't think it

Ugh, avoid Lars. If you don't and dig it, please post your thoughts somewhere, because I utterly loathed that film.

At least one of the top-5 fantasy flicks ever, and holds up so damn well. Just insanely quotable.

For all Gilliam's virtuoso and showy camera tricks and editing, one of my all time favorite shots of his the Tarkosvsky crib in the beginning, while Willis is on his way to the surface (from "Stalker", I reckon). I was around 21 when this came out, but I recall a review, probably from Hoberman, who mentioned that

That reading is aided immeasurably if one goes with the theory that they actually never screwed up when they sent Willis, but sent him each and everytime exactly where they wanted him to go.

I really bought into his performance when after he comes back to Stowe for the 3rd time and he's convinced that he *is* crazy and the past is really his present and the future was all a psychotic incident. Genuinely heartbreaking look on his face when Stowe's telling him that's wrong, and he is from the future.

Hot damn, "The Act of Killing" and "Room 237" have vaulted to the top of my fervently anticipated wish list. Weird to be thanking you two for going to what's my favorite festival, but then again, I wouldn't be writing them up, so cheers for that.

Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck, when was that screening? I had checked The Castro's web site through the end of August, but they hadn't listed September showings at that time. I did catch "There Will Be Blood" when it screened months before it's official debut there, with Anderson in attendance as well. Good times.

"Mandalay! Help me, I've come aflame again!".

Indeed, only character I was looking for.
