Jalopnik: “Azera reason Hyundai had a negative sales figure for one of its models last month?”
Car side mirrors tell about 30% the story of big truck side mirrors. They are normally smaller, flat, and offer limited view. Good truck mirrors allow you to keep the whole scene in view without moving your head around. It’s a huge difference.
Am I the only one that hates that C-pillar? I hear everyone talk about how “Beautifully elegant it is”....but i don't see it, way way way to much unbroken sheet metal...
I don’t trust blind spot monitoring enough to be okay with this. Gonna need a demonstration of how good that “360 degree” backup camera is at seeing approaching cross-traffic when preparing to back out of a parking space.
They should have just gone full GTI.
I agree. I understand that we have to write headlines in hyperboles these days to get any attention, but the correct hot take is that it looks like ass, especially compared to other Mazdas. It definitely isn’t good looking. At most, it's meh.
I don’t understand the love this thing is getting. The Mazda CX-5? Great. The Miata? Outstanding.
And its, um, really ugly. So there’s that.
I asked Mazda to make me one like that, they said sure.
Visibility? What visibility?
The front end is lovely, the sedan is gorgeous, the interior looks like a very nice place to be. That lard ass of the hatch is a big no no, though. Not only does it look way too plump and downright ill-proportioned, try to parallel park that thing. You will run over baby elephants and whole football teams without ever…
That’s a really big c-pillar and likely some hefty blind spots.
Agree, the outside is interesting, though there might be a little too much flesh in that ass for my taste, but that interior looks like a nice place to live.
“”Sounds like visibility will be decent, too; the A-pillar has been designed to minimize blind spots so that drivers won’t have to spend as much time craning around them to see to the left and right of the car.””
Even the engine gets cupholders now?!
For years the 5 door has beaten the sedan in the beauty department. I guess it decided to let the sedan have a turn. Not really digging the hatch this go round. Maybe it's the angles of the photos.
I was 100% team hatchback, but after seeing this one, I’m now 99% team hatchback. It just looks... off.
Dig the hatch though it appears may have been designed for blind spot fetishists.
