I've actually heard the opposite in that the Mk3 was the weakest link in the Golf lineage.

once again, I've had a different experience. My car is a 2002 and I've taken care of it from the time I purchased it 4 years ago used and it's night and day how different it is from MK4's I see in the city that are beat to hell.
Well i would also say that comparing the MK5 and MK6 to the MK4 in terms of how good a car it is lends itself to some bias against the MK4.
That's amazing actually. That out of all the thousands of cars that exist and have existed that a company like VW not only makes one, but two of the worst cars ever made.
I know nothing of how the 1.4 was. I own a 1.8T AWP in my GTI and while the car is still to heavy, the motor scoots it around pretty well, and I don't have a tune or anything.
That's interesting that you mention poor build quality. That's the opposite of my experience. I think everything minus some rattling interior bits are of high quality in both build and material.
" Maybe they forgot that the MK4 Golf it was based on was a bad car to begin with."
I haven't commented on Jezebel for a while you are correct. I don't recall angry rage. It might have been stuff posted on jalopnik in the form of venting as it's a safe haven from the tumblr neo-feminists that stalk Jezebel.
I hope you know I wasn't personally attacking you as much as my view of Jezebel as a whole(which is skewed but still)
The very fact that the Jezebel community takes a defensive stance should be a red flag in my opinion.
I did read it. I couldn't really see through it enough I guess. It's a gawker headline grabbing article so I read it on the train, so I didn't make the effort to really analyze it. Hence my line about the satire.
did you ever think that we care so much about our cars because we just like them?
I actually think it looks quite good. The sound isn't terrible either, but for 3.7 million it's ludicrous.
I have a MKIV GTI with a 5 speed "tiptronic" and I only drive in the "manual" mode, but then again I'm not a real enthusiast.
The Murcielago' is in my opinion probably the most important Lamborghini aside from the Muira...
What a concept, hating someone for doing what they want with their property.
"Oh my god you ruined the handling oh my god I need handling because I handle all day everyday. I handle to the grocery store, I handle to work and back, sometimes I even handle for fun! Handling handling handling handling handling speed bumps impractical handling handling handling handling."
Don't get me wrong here, it sounds fantastic, but it just doesn't suit the car very well. Difference is great, but I'd rather it sound like the 458, this sound suits a muscle car or Jaaaaag better.
Amen.
Maybe the two cars companies purposefully did this just because they knew it piss off Jalopnik so much.
