This is off topic, but I, too, mourn the demise of manual trans. That said, I currently drive a car w/ CVT, and the “gear shift” (“transmission lever?”) allows the driver to self-select a “gear” (“a point on the cone”), and then change the “gear” by pushing the shifter forward or backward.
