Is it a comedy show à la Daily Show or a real one? More importantly, nightly or weekly? I don't have time for a nightly show but open to a good weekly show about real topics with thoughtful discussion. At this point John Oliver's best quality is he only has 1 show a week, which reminds me I need to watch Sam Bee.

Thanks! I now know 2 things about Tavis Smiley. Name and color. Had never heard of him or his super-interesting sounding books before this article.

Names are generally pretty stupid. Their only real function is to reduce how many people look up when entering a room and saying, 'hey!' The true uselesness is evident for we of common names. I was in a grad class last fall with 6 students. 3 of us shared a name.

Fuck it, let's call him Pichael.

Tavis is not a name, it is a birth certificate typo. I'll be leaving now.

Ep struck a little close to home for me. My programs and papers tend to require a guide because 'not everyone is smart enough to figure it out.' No one ever sees my code anymore and I now write my academic papers without revision until someone has read my stream of consciousness paper. When I revise I tend to make

Burned us before, easy target, etc.

Maybe this is a good point for Ridley Scott in general. There are several cuts of Blade Runner and only one is any good. Maybe all his movies are cut 10 ways. He just chose shit cuts for the movies that were terrible. I would like to think there are 9 more options of all his shit films.

Damn, there was actually a point to all that? I guess I was too busy identifying with the guy who was incredulous of them ignoring evolution, the best supported theory in the history of science.

Simple. Clarke is a better hard sci-fi writer than Lindelof.

As I recall the plot was taken from Arthur C Clarkes Space Odyssey series. Paraphrasing, the monolith makers sent out the monoliths to direct potential species toward intelligence, in humanity's case "sometimes pruning was required." All in all, we are a disappointment to our creators

Skepticism is not a bad word. It's better than the blind faith alternative. People too often think 'there is a right answer out there for me.' These people don't realize that facts aren't politics, there is one correct answer and it's the one with the irrefutable evidence.

If he's sainted we Catholics will prize it as a Class 1 Holy Relic.

You've been bamboozled, that is Dourif. He hangs there when he's not working.

Wyld Stallyns!

Speak incoherently and carry a glock.

Unless they value knowledge or expansion above currency. It would be interesting if it turned out our weapons were better than theirs (maybe they thought fission was too unwieldy). Like how Romulans who have more advanced culture came up with technology like cloaking and traded with Klingons because the warring race

I just want to ride the space rails.

This I could see. They get here and find out we're monsters who are best put down before we spread.

I thought the same thing while I wrote that. The real difference is why they would come here. Europeans were out for commercial gain to the new world. There is nothing of interest on Earth that couldn't be found closer to home. IF they come, it would be for the sole purpose of contacting us. If they don't come it's
